Watch the amazing Meow the Jewels trailer
Meow The Jewels — the cat remix version of El-P and Killer Mike’s upcoming album Run the Jewels 2 — has been successfully funded. The album — whose concept is utterly amazing, by the way — was the focus of a Kickstarter campaign that was launched with the goal of raising $41,500 to have the album made. El-P and Killer Mike didn’t actually start the campaign, but El-P said that he would make good on the album if the campaign was successful. Well, here we are, with more than a week to go, and more than $50,000 raised to make the album happen.
What’s even more amazing is the guest list on the album: Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Just Blaze, Zola Jesus, Dan the Automator, Alchemist, Baauer, Prince Paul, Boots, Nick Hook, Skywlkr and Solidified Sun. But we’ve saved the best part for last. A Meow The Jewels trailer has been released in advance of the release (and making?) of the album, and it’s something you absolutely have to see. It was made by Brooklyn artist Hectah, and features clips from movies like Pulp Fiction and Big Trouble in Little China, and has the general look of a kung fu movie. But, you know, with cats! Brace yourself, folks. This is going to be something amazing. We can feel it. Meow.
