Stream the new Ghostface Killah album, 36 Seasons
Next week — Dec. 9, for those who don’t have a calendar handy — Ghostface Killah will release his new album, 36 Seasons. It’s the first of two albums he’ll release in the next couple of months, the second of which is a collaborative album with Toronto experimental jazz outfit BadBadNotGood called Sour Soul. Ghost’s follow-up to last year’s Twelve Reasons To Die, however, is a concept album of sorts, with Ghostface playing a kind of modern-day hip-hop superhero, as the album’s press release describes it.
We’ve already been treated to a couple of new songs from the album, each of which present this latest Ghostface Killah release as another gritty yet heartfelt slice of hip-hop, bolstered by lots of classic soul sounds. But now you can hear the entire thing before it’s released, courtesy of NPR First Listen. The NPR feature describes the album as “a real life love story disguised as an action movie,” and there’s a good chance, you’ll be hearing a lot more emotion in this one than Ghostface’s occasional tendency to go dadaist — not that we’d mind.
