Big|Brave announce new album, in grief or in hope

Earlier this year, Big|Brave‘s guitarist Mat Ball and touring bassist Liam Andrews released their debut album as Spillings, one of the year’s first great new albums. And now, Andrews has joined the band in the studio for their next album, in grief or in hope, which is out June 12 via Thrill Jockey. Today they’ve released a new song, “the ineptitude for moral discernment,” which you can hear below.

Vocalist Robin Wattie said in a statement, “I wanted to explore catchy, melodic phrasing weaved throughout the intensity of the instrumentation and droney chord changes. All that I could reflect on was grief and hope; death and life; cause and effect; shared experiences of being a human person.”

Big|Brave’s last album was 2025’s OST. Their 2023 album nature morte is featured on our list of the 100 Best Albums of the 2020s So Far.
