Alvvays, Arcade Fire, U.S. Girls on Polaris Prize long list
The long list for the 2018 Polaris Prize has been revealed. The annual music prize honors the best music released by a Canadian artist, and the full list includes more than 40 albums released in the past year. This year’s long list includes Alvvays’ Antisocialites, Arcade Fire’s Everything Now, FRIGS’ Basic Behaviour, U.S. Girls’ In a Poem Unlimited, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan’s Dirt, and many others. Also included on the list are albums by Gord Downie, Propagandhi, Sloan, Faith Healer, The Weather Station, Weaves and Bernice. Take a look at the complete list here.
A number of prominent Canadian albums from the past year didn’t make the cut, including recent releases from Wolf Parade, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Broken Social Scene and Preoccupations.
The list of albums will be narrowed down to the final 10 on July 17. The Polaris Prize 2018 gala takes place on September 17.
