Rock Docs Podcast: Nick’s Picks Vol. 4: Backstage
Rock Docs enters the holiday weekend with an annual(-ish) tradition: Nick’s Picks! Listeners and readers will likely remember the last installment of this recurring series, in which guest and friend of the podcast Nick McCann selects his choice of music documentary, on Sound City, the film in which Dave Grohl hangs out with all the rock stars. And now, Nick’s back again to join hosts Andy Keatts and David Lizerbram for Nick’s Picks Vol. 4, on Backstage.
Backstage is a 2000 doc about the 1999 Hard Knock Life Tour that featured several of hip-hop’s top acts including Jay-Z, DMX, Method Man, and Redman. As well as, of course, Pain in da Ass. The movie was directed by Chris Fiore.
If you like arguments about which hip-hop record label’s brand should appear on the official tour jacket, then this is the doc for you.
This week also features a shout out to our 10th anniversary essay on Jay-Z’s The Black Album.
Hear the new episode below, and watch the trailer for Backstage. It’s available to stream on Prime Video and Apple TV.
