Joni Mitchell performs her first full set in over 20 years, at Newport Folk Festival
Pitchfork reports that Joni Mitchell made a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival this weekend, making her second live appearance this year after having not performed in a decade and playing her first full live set in over two decades. Mitchell joined Brandi Carlile, who herself has covered the entirety of Michell’s classic album Blue, and the two performed several songs together, including “A Case of You” and “Both Sides Now.”
Mitchell’s set also included tracks from throughout her catalog such as “Big Yellow Taxi” and “The Circle Game” (with Wynonna Judd), in addition to a handful of covers, including Gershwin’s “Summertime.” Some fan footage has been posted to YouTube following her appearance. Watch some clips below.
