Phil Elverum documentary There's No End

A new documentary about Mount Eerie‘s Phil Elverum, titled There’s No End, has just been released and is now available to view in its entirety via YouTube. The 20-minute film documents the life of Elverum following the loss of his wife, Geneviève Castrée, to pancreatic cancer in 2016. It’s directed by Mattias Evangelista and executive produced by Elverum, and features music from both Mount Eerie and The Microphones. Watch it below.

Elverum says about the film in a statement, “I always try to just be myself. Sometimes I make songs and albums of spilled guts deep reaching ideas and send them out to all the strangers in the world, but mostly I’ve tried to keep the real daily life private. I’ve wanted to share the meat and hide the skin. Now I find myself surprised to be revealing a beautifully filmed portrait version of this home life; the simple routines with my young daughter, the meandering ideas that burble out unformed. Our lived moments aren’t the art project, but a picture of our little world with its everyday light and shadows, the place where we actually live. Coffee and oatmeal on a school morning, talking again about death and jokes and emptiness.”

In 2020, Elverum released his first album as The Microphones in 17 years, The Microphones in 2020.
