Digable Planets announce reunion show
Digable Planets have announced a reunion show. The ’90s-era hip-hop trio comprising Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving and Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, now of Shabazz Palaces, will perform their first show in four years on December 30 at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle, according to Pitchfork. The next night, Butler’s other group Shabazz Palaces will perform a New Year’s Eve show at the same venue.
Digable Planets last performed together in 2011, after another brief reunion in 2011. In 2012, Butler gave an interview to the Seattle Times about the group, noting “I think it’s the end” after giving a detailed explanation of the members’ differences in priorities. It does seem, however, that it’s not the end, since they’re actually playing a show. So there’s that.
Digable Planets’ “Blowing Down” is featured on our list True Alternative: The Top 100 Underground songs of the ’90s.
