Long-awaited J Dilla vocal album The Diary to finally get an official release
J Dilla‘s previously unreleased vocal album, The Diary, is finally getting an official release after being announced back in 2013. Two tracks from the album, “Anthem” and “Trucks,” were released on a 12-inch single that year. Today on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 show, Nas announced that The Diary would be released on his label, Mass Appeal (and the Dilla PayJay imprint, with support of Dilla’s estate) on April 15.
The album is compiled from mixes and masters in Dilla’s archive, and features rapping from Dilla, Snoop Dogg, Kenny Wray, Bilal, Frank and Dank, Boogie, Kokane and Nottz. Production credits include Dilla, Madlib, Pete Rock, Supa Dave West, Hi-tek, Nottz, House Shoes, and Bink!. Take a look at the tracklist below, and stream “The Introduction.”
