Bandcamp now supports public playlists

Bandcamp playlists

Bandcamp’s mobile app now supports playlists. Today, Bandcamp announced that playlists are now in beta, and supported on the Bandcamp iOS and Android apps. Users can add any song in their “collection”—which means that they’ve purchased the song or album—into a playlist. However, unlike Spotify, it’s designed to encourage purchasing music from the artists, so users won’t be able to add music to a playlist that isn’t in their collection. And additionally, listeners must have a Bandcamp account in order to listen. There’s a set limit of three plays of a song for listeners who don’t also have that song in their collection.

In the site’s own words, “no free-for-all streaming.” Which, honestly, given how music has been devalued over time, is probably a good thing. In any case, we’re looking forward to getting started with making some public playlists.

The staff of Bandcamp have shared some of their own playlists to get you started.
