Today is a new release Friday, and one of the big albums being released today is the latest from Boris, Heavy Rocks (their third album under that title), out via Relapse. And naturally, it lives up to its meat-and-potatoes title, presenting exactly what the title suggests, with plenty of big-riff rock ‘n’ roll and metal to go around, and a surprising amount of saxophone. We’ve got some thoughts on that, which we’ll share soon. (Though here’s a hint.) It’s classic Boris, in contrast to the more atmospheric sounds of their recently released album W, though then again the band changes course so often that after 25 years or so, pretty much any sound they tackle qualifies as “classic Boris.” Suffice it to say, this rocks.
