Rock Docs Podcast: In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon, featuring guest Dan Jasper
Rock Docs pays a visit to to one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time this week. Formerly one half of Simon and Garfunkel, troubadour behind 14 great solo albums and more (including “We Are the World”), Paul Simon is the subject of In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon, a newly released documentary directed by Alex Gibney.
In Restless Dreams is a two-part, three-plus hour comprehensive look at the career of Paul Simon. “Comprehensive” in this case, however, means telling the story up to about 1990 and then skipping ahead to 2022. That’s right, if you wanted to spend a lot of time watching Paul grumpily work on his 2023 banger Seven Psalms, this is the doc for you. There is, however, a whole lot of great music featured from the early and middle parts of Paul’s career, as well as some killer performances. And a bunch of Lorne Michaels.
This week’s guest is Dan Jasper of the Mad Men podcast They Coined It, who previously joined your hosts, Andy Keatts and David Lizerbram, for their episode on the Rolling Stones doc, Crossfire Hurricane.
