Next week, Massachusetts group California X returns with their new album Nights in the Dark, the follow-up to their 2013 self-titled debut — which was a favorite of ours that year. A few weeks back, the band debuted the title track from the album, which showed that their penchant for meaty guitars and hard-driving anthems hasn’t waned in the past two years. But why settle for one song when you can hear the whole thing for yourself? Pitchfork Advance is streaming the album one week before it’s officially out (Jan. 13, via Don Giovanni). It’s chock full of indie rock anthems and massive hooks, and there’s even a couple two-parters thrown into the mix. Not that they’ve gone prog or anything.
