De La Soul 3 Feet High and Rising review

De La Soul‘s classic albums are finally available on streaming services. After long being unavailable due to sample clearance issues, the band’s Tommy Boy albums are now available again digitally, with a vinyl reissue of 3 Feet High and Rising out now as well. The other albums of theirs hitting streaming today include 1991’s De La Soul Is Dead, 1993’s Buhloone Mindstate, 1996’s Stakes Is High, 2000’s Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, and 2001’s AOI: Bionix.

The return of the hip-hop icons’ albums arrive shortly after the death of De La Soul emcee Trugoy the Dove, making the occasion bittersweet. In a letter published on Instagram last month, Maseo said, “On one end I’m happy you no longer have to suffer the pain of your condition but on the other hand I’m extremely upset at the fact that you’re not here to celebrate and enjoy what we worked and fought so hard to achieve.”

De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising is featured on our list of the 150 Best Albums of the 1980s.
