What’s your favorite album that didn’t make Treble’s Top 50 list

Ryan Adams’ 1989. My wife has a Taylor Swift ban in place in the car, so it’s like vaping to scratch that itch when I am with her. Adams gives the songs a rough Bruce-Springsteen-meets-Crazy-Horse brand of rock-infused Americana to these pop songs and owns them in the same way Elvis used to when he covered Olivia Newton John.

What the best older album you discovered this year?

Taylor Swift’s 1989. It came out in October of 2014 and I downloaded it back in September. After listening to death metal all day it’s a great palate cleanser. Whoever is on her payroll co-writing those hooks is insane. I wake up in the middle of the night looking for a blank space to write your name.

What music defined your 2015?

This year, when I was not flirting with pop music, I mainly listened to anything that was emotionally heavy and dark, which is also what I listened to last year and well the past twenty years before that as well.

What was the best live show you saw in 2015?

King Diamond performing Abigail front to back. While there were some drunk idiots there holding their drinks in the air to songs they didn’t know, it didn’t matter. You do not get more metal than King Diamond, unless you are at a Mercyful Fate show.
