Stream the new Daughn Gibson album, Carnation
On June 2, electronic noir crooner Daughn Gibson will release Carnation, his follow-up to 2013’s abrasive and haunting Me Moan, via Sub Pop. With his third album, Gibson transitions into some new realms, taking on some breezier pop territory, heady ambiance, a little bit of new wave and other synth-based sounds. It’s at once brighter than his past material and entirely at home right next to it. And with songs like “For Every Bite” and “Shine of the Night,” he’s still revisiting the darkness and doom that permeates much of his best material. It’s a diverse, yet cohesive set of songs, and it’s certainly worth a repeat listen or two. And you can do that right now, as Carnation is now available to stream via NPR First Listen, a week before it’s released.
